Who doesn't want great teeth?   Unfortunately, in the US, cosmetic dentistry is not covered by insurance, and the cost is way beyond what most people can reasonably afford.  Not so in Colombia.  In addition to highly qualified dentists, periodontists, endodontists, and other specialists who use the latest techniques and materials, the cost is less than 1/2 what you pay in the States.  Get the smile makeover you've dreamed of at real savings!

 Cosmetic Dentistry

Medical Tourism in Colombia refers our clients to carefully researched and vetted dental professionals for full smile makeovers, crowns, dental implants, and so much more. What's more, they are tried and proven!  Over the last two years, the owner and founder has had his dental work done with the team shown on this page. These photos are the actual dentists - and the beautiful clinic (it's nice to have a view from the chair!) - where we usually send our clients.  This highly professional and caring group provides exceptional results, using Zirconia crowns, Porcelain laminates and Titanium implants (the world-wide industry standards for strength and longevity), and the most modern equipment.

Meet The Team

At their clinic in one of the nicest upscale neighborhoods in Medellin, Dr Wilmer, who focuses on periodontal treatments and implants, Dr Juan Jose, who is an exceptional cosmetic dentist and professor of cosmetic dentistry, and Dr Sara, an expert endodontist specializing in root canals, have created a comfortable, relaxed and supportive environment to offer world-class dental care.  In addition to being among the kindest people you will ever meet, their high standards offer both superb dental care and a level of artistry that will bring you the smile you always dreamed of.  The entire team attended the best dental schools in Colombia for both their original dental training and specialties.

Crowns and Laminates

Cosmetic Dentistry: Crowns & Laminates

Crowns and Laminates come in different materials, so you want to be sure a better price does NOT mean cheaper materials.  Today, the state of the art compound for crowns is Zirconia, which is what the dental team referred by Medical Tourism in Colombia uses.  It is stronger than other ceramic or metal compounds, has more consistent color, repels plaque, smoke and other staining agents, and will last longer than any other material currently in use.  For laminates (also called veneers), they use the latest stain-resistant, long-lasting Porcelain.

Using the best materials is just one element of your smile makeover.  The experience and artistry of the dental team ensures you get a movie star smile, and the admiration of all your friends and family.

Most people getting a smile makeover get both crowns and laminates.  The crowns entirely cover your own tooth which has been prepared by your dentist.  Laminates consist of "panels" that are attached to your tooth to give it a whole new look and color.  The dentist decides which teeth are best treated with laminates, and which with crowns.  Either way, you end up with strong, long lasting, perfectly matching, great looking teeth!  And with Medical Tourism in Colombia, you get them for under 50% of what you pay in the US.
Dental Implants

Dental Implants

If you've lost a tooth, or a tooth needs to be removed, it is most often replaced with a dental implant.  The best dental implants use Titanium screws and Zirconia crowns, which are the materials used by the dentists we recommend.  Our prices are lower, but never because the dentists we refer use materials that are less than state-of-the-art.

Dental implants are made up of the implant body, or screw, an abutment which attaches to the screw, and the crown, which attaches to the abutment.

Sometimes it's necessary to prepare the jaw bone to be sure it is strong enough to securely accept the screw, which may include a bone graft.  Once this is completed, the screw is inserted, and a period of time has to pass so the bone can grow around it before the crown can be added.

The crown process is similar to a crown that goes over your tooth, though it's a bit more complicated.  In the end, it perfectly matches all your other crowns and laminates  prepared by your dental team, but with Medical Tourism in Colombia you'll pay just a fraction of the cost!

Dental Bridges

If you have a gap from a missing tooth, and an implant is not the right treatment for you, a dental bridge might be the answer.  There are several different types of dental bridges, including the traditional dental bridge and the cantilever dental bridge, but they all use crowns supported by your original teeth or other types of "anchors" that support the crowns.  There are even dental bridges supported by implants.  The type of bridge chosen will depend on the the state of your remaining teeth and the overall health of your gums.

Of course, with the dentist referred by Medical Tourism in Colombia, only the best materials are used, and you get the smile solution that works for you!
Periodontal Surgey
Periodontal Surgery:
Deep Cleaning, Bone Grafts,  and Sinus Lifts

Healthy gums are the foundation of healthy teeth.
The periodontal surgeons we refer you to understand the importance of your gums and jaw bone - and specifically in reference to cosmetic dentistry procedures.

Here is how they help you maintain healthy gums and prepare you for your cosmetic procedures:

Periodontal Deep Cleaning:  A deep cleaning, also known as a deep scaling, entails removing plaque from under the gums that surround your teeth.  This is done by removing hard to reach plaque, including using ultrasonic and other tools to clean the area.  Deep cleaning removes the plaque that causes gum disease that weakens the foundations that your teeth, and importantly, new dental implants, rely on.

Bone Graft: Sometimes people lose bone density in their jaw, usually from plaque and bacterial infection.  This is not unusual, especially as we age.  A bone graft is a periodontal procedure whereby the dentist surgically places bone or synthetic tissue in the affected jaw bone and around the teeth to get the body to regenerate additional natural bone in the area.  Bone grafts are a good idea whenever there is jaw bone loss, however it is especially indicated when implants are needed in the area.  The bone graft, which can take up to six months to grow to the required density, ensures an implant has adequate bone to create a secure base for the crown above it.

Sinus Lift:  A sinus lift is sometimes required when the sinus membrane is too close to the upper jaw, or when the height of the upper jaw is insufficient to allow for a dental implant.  During the procedure, the sinus is lifted and often a bone graft is placed in the area to ensure an adequate base for the implant.  If a bone graft is required, it can take up to six months for enough bone to grow to create an adequate base for the implant.

The dental team referred by Medical Tourism in Colombia includes Dr Sara, a gentle and experienced specialist in Endodontia, or root canal procedures.  In cosmetic dentistry, it's important that you have healthy teeth and gums to form the base for your beautiful new smile.  Root canals are sometimes required when there is tissue in the tooth that needs to be removed, and the tooth root is subsequently cleaned, disinfected and filled.  After the treatment, you'll be ready for your dental crowns or laminates!

"Painless" and Sedation Dentistry

Sedation Dentistry
Laughing Gas Image.webp
Some people just hate going to the dentist!  If you have anxiety or a genuine phobia about dental treatment, let us know!  Our referred dentists do have different levels of sedation available, and the expertise to professionally administer it to you.  This may include oral sedation with anti-anxiety pills to make you more relaxed, nitrous oxide, or "laughing gas", which is a stronger sedative (and sometime really does make you laugh), and even IV sedation.  If you are uncomfortable, or think you may need sedation above and beyond novocain, discuss this with your doctor at the initial video interview.  In that way, he will verify your physical well-being and sensitivity to the drugs used, and everything will be ready when you arrive for your appointment.
